Corvin Castle, Romania

I visited Romania in June 2016 with my fiancée and a couple of friends, hiring a car and exploring the country. Corvin Castle is located in Hunedoara, in the Transylvania region of Romania. The Gothic-style castle is built on rock above the Zlaști River. Construction was started by Iancu of Hunedoara in the 15th century on the site of a former keep. The two-storey Large Palace was added in the 17th century to provide extra living space, along with the White Tower and the Artillery Tower for military purposes. It is rumoured that Vlad III of Wallachia, also known as Vlad the Impaler, was imprisoned in the dungeon for some time during the 15th century, although this has never been proven.

Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptor

The United States Air Force sent this F-22A Raptor of the 1st Fighter Wing to take part in the flying display at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in July 2016. The F-22A is a stealth air superiority fighter produced between 1996 and 2011. Its twin engines feature pitch-axis thrust vectoring nozzles for high manoeuvrability, and it is currently one of only a few aircraft that can supercruise, where supersonic flight is maintained without the use of afterburners. A high production cost, lack of relevant adversaries, and a ban on exports under American federal law to protect its stealth technology led to only 187 operational aircraft being built.

Tawny Owl

This Tawny Owl (Strix aluco) was taking part in a flying demonstration at the Hawk Conservancy Trust in Andover, Hampshire, on a visit in May 2016.

The Tawny Owl is widespread throughout England, Wales, and Scotland. They are nocturnal, and hunt small mammals and rodents. They are known for their "twit twoo" call, which is actually one owl answering the call of another.

The Royal Netherlands Air Force Historical Flight flew their B-25J at Wings & Wheels at Dunsfold Aerodrome in August 2015. The B-25 Mitchell is a medium bomber manufactured by North American Aviation. Nearly 10,000 were built from late 1939 through 1945. This particular aircraft was completed in September 1944. She is currently painted in the colours of the Netherlands East Indies Air Force B-25C "Sarinah Plesiran 'Neer.?" and was taking off for her display routine when this photo was taken.

In May 2015 I was lucky enough to get a press pass for the Common People music festival in Southampton. Seen here is one of the guitarists of local band The Novatones during their set on the main stage.
